This morning little monkey and I were watching the weather.  Monkey says ‘Mom, can we move our house to Minnesota, next to my cousins?  Cuz it’s way too hot down here…look at all that red’.

My own personal wave pool

Sorry sweet, baby.  Maybe you can convince Daddy that we need a pool.

Yeah, that’s three months of HOT summer with three months to go!

A quick perspective.  We hit the high temperature today for the Minneapolis area at about 8:00am this morning.  We will see it again about say…10ish tonight.  This has been the summer with temps over 100 degrees.  So, it’s hot here…and the outlook isn’t changing anytime in the near future.

My body is still programmed for the seasons.  Around this time and in the coming weeks,  I start to get the feeling that summer is coming to a close.  I begin to expect the prospect of clear, chilly nights, football and putting that pot of chili on the fire.  The problem is it’s only August and though I might not be too far off from reality in the northern part of this country, I am here – smack dab in the middle of Texas where we likely won’t see any indications of those things (minus football, of course) until sometime in late October or early November.  You see, summer lasts a long, long time down here in the south.

No, I am not complaining.  I have been singing the praises of the sun drenched days of winter here replacing the cold, damp and gray perspective of some very long winters up north for just over a decade.  I won’t take any of that back.  Not anytime soon…no matter how many over 100 degree days you throw at me.

So Bring it ON!

I am good with enjoying my first pot of chili when the weather dips down into the low sixties sometime in November, with the TV tuned to a game with (hopefully) Farve playing in the white stuff at Lambeau …
