Happy Birthday to Mr. BigA!!

So…the question is asked…”Are you now the person that you thought you would be twenty years ago?”

*chuckle*

Interesting question, don’t you think?  I mean, it would be really hard for me to say.   I was such a silly girl with silly ideas about what was important.  All I can say is, whatever I was thinking at 25 could not have remotely measured up to what I have been blessed with now.  I try not to look back.  Not because it was bad.  Not because it was good – but because I can’t change it.  There are a number of things from that time in my life that I am proud of and many decisions I made that I regret.  I was living a life that in many ways would not be representative of the person I am today.  

I don’t know what it was along this journey that influenced my direction and brought me to be the person I am today – except to say that I took things a day at a time.  It wasn’t all smooth sailing.  Bad things happened.  Even tragic things happened but there was always laughter and joy along the way.   

When I do look back I try to focus on the people and experiences from a position of gratitude.  I am grateful for those friends and people who influenced my life and for everything they taught me.   I am also grateful that the mistakes I made taught me to pick myself up and keep going. 

But today, I am most grateful that I can look back and laugh at myself. 

This year we opted for the relaxing New Year’s eve, hanging out at home and avoiding any hassle’s in the New Year’s Party crowds…even if it’s family friendly.  Seem’s this choice was well received by all…

We hope your New Year’s Celebration was Safe and Happy as well.!!

I like white noise.  But my definition of white noise may not meet with the “flat power spectral density” definition. 

When I am home alone piddling around with things like housework and laundry, I usually like to have some background noise in the house.  If its music, it has to be LOUD.  But usually I just flip on cable news or talk radio which works just fine for me, too. 

Complete silence will not work.  It’s distracting and disruptive.  And deafening! 

I believe that this is one of those things I learned as a child.  My Grandma was always humming and singing along with the the music from her favorite Christian radio station.  She hummed and sang while cooking lunches and dinner or just piddling with things around the house or in her garden.  

I love that memory.  I love the soft, sweet soprano of her voice.  

My Grandma really never sat still for anything and come to think of it neither did my Mom.  Every now and then I would find Mom humming or singing while sorting clothes or cleaning things around the house.  There was always a certain peace and contentment about it. 

Perhaps I need to hum more and talk less.

Happy Independence Day!

Today commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence was voted the most influential document in American History. It was signed by the members of the Second Continental Congress and remains a cherished symbol of Liberty and Freedom.

“…We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. — Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government….”

Members of the Second Continental Congress were considered rebels and traitors by the King of England. These courageous men pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor for the cause of Freedom.

Today we celebrate their pledge and sacrifice reinforcing the Declaration made 232 years ago.
