Good bye 2008, Hello 2009.

I promised to bring everything up to speed today and catch up on all the pictures and events since the middle of October.  This post got so big…I had to break it up into a few shorter posts.

There were a number of things setting up to make things fun for this last quarter of the year.

Let’s start with  Halloween!  Each year the development we live in puts on a Halloween fun day for the kids.  Danny enjoyed playing all of the games.  Daddy enjoyed them as well.  Here they are getting ready for a sack race.

We have a Winner!!!

Daddy attempted to dive across the finish line for a dramatic win.  But unfortunately, he was out bounced by the Monkey.  Speaking of bouncing, there was plenty of that to be had there as well!

The monkey had a real time deciding which of his favorite Super Heros would be his choice for a costume.  But it didn’t take too long before  he decided on Bat Man.  I believe he thought that we really would get a Bat mobile if that was the one he chose, but ultimately this costume had the best accessories.  A cool utility belt with bat-a-rangs and a flash light.  Mom also found some cool Halloween jammies!

Mr. Scary Skeletor!!!   And…yes, you guessed it!

Bat Man!

Halloween was a pretty fun day.  Mom and Dad took off work,  Aunt Terri, Uncle David and cousin Sarah drove in from Houston and Daddy played golf…and got his first hole-in-one!  It was pretty great!  Here’s the costume pics.  Seems we have a bit of a “fitting” issue with the mask piece of the costume.  Not an exact fit but he wore it the entire evening!

Everything seems like a bit of a blur following Halloween.

A spa/salon not far from my office decided that they would like to carry some of my jewelry pieces on consignment and they were in the process of re-modeling the salon.  I needed to have inventory by Thanksgiving to go on display after the remodel that weekend.  I had three weeks to get the beads and jewelry made.  In addition, my best bud – also designs jewelry and makes beads asked me to participate with her in a Christmas bazaar in December.  Oh, why not?

I didn’t realize how much work it was to do all of this…oh and work full time, too.  Yikes.  Somewhere in the middle of all this fun Monkey graduated to yellow belt in Kung Fu.  You were probably wondering what all the posing was about in the PJ’s.  He’s been taking Kung Fu since August.  He’s a bit of a ham and likes to show off.  Kung Fu requires him to have focus and pay strict attention which seems to be a nice balance for him.

Kung Fu seems to be a highlight of his week.  He was able to learn what he needed to know in order to pass the test and now he’s a yellow belt.

Good Job Little Monkey!!!

Here’s a set of my latest little beadies!  They are the Jack-o-lantern gang!

And I have some pumpkins too…

Here’s the whole gang!  Some of these little buddies are cracked (yeah, they are glass…) so sadly they will stick around in the beady bin rather than make it into earrings or bracelets but they are still pretty cute!

And I have a few more still getting showered and cleaned up for their photo shoot.  Thought I would share these for now.  What do you think?

Behind is the understatement of the year! I am still a bit behind but finally making some headway.  It’s amazing what you can get done when you actually write out the the list.  :p I only do that so I can cross things off.  I am working on taking some photos of my beads to post here so you can see what I have up my sleeve for Halloween.  They are way too cute for words and I am pretty happy with them for the most part.  I have had a few that cracked…but they are still cute so I will keep them in the photos.  Speaking of photos – check out the contest on MomShots.   Look what she’s giving away! I hope I win, I hope I win.  I have taken a few of her tips for taking photos of the little Monkey and I will post them tonight or tomorrow at the latest! Here’s my current updated list of things to do:

  • Clean Beads and group for sets - DONE!  Woo hoo!
  • Post “monster” Beads – photos coming in the next day or so…
  • Re-do earring sets – done
  • Website work
  • Finish Lisa’s baby gifty! – My second ever knitting project – too cool.
  • blog entries  – started but need work – still working on these!  can you believe it?
  • Photos to edit and post -
  • house to clean done but needs a redo this weekend.
  • work at WORK to do – augh…this is never going away…

Hold on tight…it’s gonna be a wild ride.

I have to tell you a bit about my class at Blue Moon Glassworks here in Austin. This place ranks number two on my favorite places to be!  (Home is number one, of course!)  Jim and Rose are the sweetest folks on the planet!  Corina is an amazing person.  She’s an incredible artist and a terrific teacher.  The class was beyond fun.  I won’t go into too much detail but I really feel like my skills improved dramatically in the two days with such a wonderful mentor.  I learned a lot…most of which consisted of correcting some things I was doing wrong.  We made some pretty cool beadies and I will post them soon.  I need to take some pictures.

I will be posting something for the Fourth of July celebration so check back here tomorrow or over the weekend.  Also,  my posts in the coming week may be few and far between.  We are taking a much needed vacation to an exotic place in the north part of the USA called Minnesota.  (yes, I am packing a sweater!) We just might have to post something fun from the week…we will see. Could be fun…

Have a wonderful and safe Holiday weekend!

Just as I promised…

Here are some of my beads!

Hi, I just have to tell you that I am slightly scatterbrained. I am taking a class this weekend and I am pretty giddy about being able to be in this class.

You see, I make glass beads. I started making glass beads about a year and a half ago. Well, that’s not EXACTLY true. Truth is, I took my first glass bead making class about a year and a half ago. So most of what I have made up to this point couldn’t really be characterized as anything but practice. I mean, this is not a full time thing for me. I have some nice beads, but I am really still learning. So…the class…

Corina Tettinger is an amazing artist. I am beyond excited to meet her. She is teaching the class this weekend. My class…I get to take a class from Corina! *happy dance* Corina made some beads while teaching in Maui a couple years ago which is what really kick-started me on this journey. Being able to take a class from her is amazingly exciting and a bit intimidating at the same time.

I am scatterbrained because I have a lot to do this week and also really need to spend some quality time with my torch…you know…to practice.

I will take some pictures of some recently completed beads and post them tonight. Really, I will. I promise.

Beyond that…I can’t tell you what to expect! :)
