I like white noise. But my definition of white noise may not meet with the “flat power spectral density” definition.
When I am home alone piddling around with things like housework and laundry, I usually like to have some background noise in the house. If its music, it has to be LOUD. But usually I just flip on cable news or talk radio which works just fine for me, too.
Complete silence will not work. It’s distracting and disruptive. And deafening!
I believe that this is one of those things I learned as a child. My Grandma was always humming and singing along with the the music from her favorite Christian radio station. She hummed and sang while cooking lunches and dinner or just piddling with things around the house or in her garden.
I love that memory. I love the soft, sweet soprano of her voice.
My Grandma really never sat still for anything and come to think of it neither did my Mom. Every now and then I would find Mom humming or singing while sorting clothes or cleaning things around the house. There was always a certain peace and contentment about it.
Perhaps I need to hum more and talk less.
Do you hum?
