Look closely…can you see him in there?  Look a that Little Guppy!

Alright, I know…it’s a stock photo.  What can I say???  In my frantic haste to get home from south Austin in rush hour traffic, pick up the the Guppy and get him to his swimming lesson, I failed to be completely prepared with a FULLY CHARGED camera battery.  RATS!  The good news is that we remembered the camera!!  We got there with minutes to spare!! As we headed into the swim center, handing a few things off between us, Chris went to grab the camera from me and it dropped smack dab onto the concrete parking lot.  Oops!  It works, though.  But the battery died a quick and evil death after about 3 or 4 shots.  And…they haven’t been downloaded yet.  We’ll get there.

I know, I know.  It was a busy week last week so I didn’t get a chance to update but the Monday post still fit for yesterday so…what can I say?  This week promises more of the “busy” but I am planning a few posts so I will do my best to get them done.  Perhaps with pictures too. I know…shock and awe!

Little Monkey will be taking his first swimming lesson tonight.  He loves being in the water and wants to swim like a fish.  He’s getting more and more confident so now is a good time to get him in lessons.   I will have some Guppy posts with some pictures, hopefully tomorrow.  I know you just can hardly stand to wait!

I can teach him the dog paddle!

I can teach him the dog paddle!

HEY!! Where did the weekend go?!?

love,

another case of the Monday’s

I know that I promised more pictures and they are safe and sound in the camera.

The Camera.  Can we talk?  I love photography.  But unlike the Pioneer Woman, I truly stink at it. We have a five year old six megapixel Nikon CoolPix 5400.  It was the greatest thing since sliced bread when it came out five years ago.  That was back when Digital SLR’s were what dreams (and home equity loans) were made of.  Lately, the digital SLR’s have really come down in price and have gone through the roof with capability.  So for about a year or so, I have complained and complained about the lack of capability in our little Nikon camera.  Our CoolPix is a point and shoot camera.  So set it on auto and away you go, right?  Well, maybe but I wanted something more.  How can I possibly learn with a point and shoot?  I mean, really?

I campaigned for a new Canon Digital SLR thinking that perhaps I needed to make a change from my NIKON tendencies.  See, marketing CAN work.  And about this time last year our little Nikon just up and died.  Something went kaput and the poor thing just decided not to take any pictures at all.  Ah HA!  My window of opportunity was there for the taking but after a bit of research of the problem, we sent the camera off to Nikon for further evaluation.  AND…they fixed it.  Fer nuthin.  Window of opportunity slammed shut, TIGHT.

On Pioneer woman’s photo blog last week there was a compelling question placed in the Photography section. Canon or Nikon?  The question sent me straight into research mode.  I love her photographs.  But as much as I enjoyed the wonderful pictures of her new nephew that she took with a Canon, I really missed the clarity and pop of the Nikon pics.  I continued on looking at digital slr’s and features and photos.  but as I dug more and more into the topic it wasn’t the cameras that captured my attention.  It was the process of taking pictures. Not just the point and click part.  I enjoyed reading and learning about how changing of settings, aperture, shutter speed, etc really play into the quality of the final product.  Oh, so maybe it’s just me and not the camera.

Manual settings, interesting thought.  Maybe I can do something with all those dials and buttons on the camera I have.  What do you think?  Sure enough our CoolPix actually does have MANUAL settings!  Who knew?!  I confess that in my attention deficit, point and shoot craziness, I failed to actually pay any attention whatsoever to the little Nikon manual that came with my camera five years ago.

OK, now I have decided to hold off torturing my husband for a new NIKON digital SLR (though this one looks way too sweet for words).  Instead, I am starting to pick apart the capabilities of my little CoolPix and LEARN a bit more about it before I go running off into the land of digital SLR.   Plus, maybe by the time I get more proficient with the Coolpix that sweet Nikon SLR will be a bit less trouble for my budget.  You did notice I said Nikon and not Canon.  It’s nice to be home, again.

I am working on loading all of my fun, unedited photos (because I don’t have photoshop yet, either) into flickr for you to peruse.  I promise that there will be many pictures of the growing boy…and our stinker of a puppy and maybe I will actually learn to take some NICE pictures with this very capable Nikon.

This morning little monkey and I were watching the weather.  Monkey says ‘Mom, can we move our house to Minnesota, next to my cousins?  Cuz it’s way too hot down here…look at all that red’.

My own personal wave pool

Sorry sweet, baby.  Maybe you can convince Daddy that we need a pool.
