No one told me that it would start THIS early.

We had a birthday dinner for the little Monkey who turned four earlier this month.  We took him to his favorite place – “Chili’s”.

Mr. Monkey was fidgeting around all through dinner.  All he wanted was to leave, get home and open those boxes wrapped in Spiderman paper.

Part way through dinner, three young girls came in and sat in the booth across from us.  Young girls, yes, but old enough to drive.  They were obviously high school age.  Bubbly and cute in their summer attire – shorts, tanks and flip flops.  They didn’t just come from the pool.  Of that I am quite certain.  They were perfectly coiffed and ready for summer’s evening fun.

One was whispering into her phone while the others listened intently.  It was a festival of whispers and giggles.

Mr. Monkey boy decides he needs to sit on the other side of the booth with Daddy.  I was not arguing the point after wrestling with him through most of dinner which he barely touched.  He’s only “a little hungry, mom, not a lot hungry”.  So off he goes to sit with Daddy.  His motivation to move wasn’t quite clear to me at this point but that wasn’t my concern.  It was Daddy’s turn.

Daddy and I are having a conversation about some topic which has since escaped me but the Monkey’s attention is focused on the three giggling cuties on the other side of the aisle. He’s quiet and contemplative watching the giggling girls in the next booth.

After a few minutes, he reaches out and points toward the girls “I like THAT girl”; he says confidently, immediately hiding his face in Daddy’s side.  The young girls’ attentions are now focused on the Monkey who is smiling and acting coy.  The girls giggle and respond with “AWwwww”.

Daddy, of course, cannot leave well enough alone and states “Which one?”  Monkey smiles now. “That one” he says, pointing directly at the lone blonde in the trio.  Again, the giggles erupt and the young lady blushes slightly.  Everyone is laughing now.

“That’s my boy” was Daddy’s response, “I like the blondes, too.”
